Vuescan linux mint9/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() This Epson is taking the place of a much-older Epson Perfection 2580. I've done some basic color photograph scans and the images look pretty good. It makes things easier and given the amount of scanning that I do, it was worth the price. This is a program that will run on every operating system. To make things even easier, I purchased Vuescan. The Epson V600 will work once you've installed Epson's drivers from their website. What this means is that, if it works, great. Epson has drivers for Linux, but they state upfront that they do not support Linux. All I did to find one that works was to find a flatbed scanner that had the features I wanted (basic flatbed scanner, negatives, 35mm slides), then check the manufacturer website for Linux drivers. I've finally found a flatbed scanner that will work with my computer. Thousands of customers have switched from Silverfast to VueScan. If you run a computer using Linux as do I (I'm currently running Linux Mint 18 on an Intel Skylake-based computer), finding a flatbed scanner is a hit-or-miss thing. It also works on all scanners that you own, not just the one that you purchase it for (like Silverfast). For the same (or better) scan quality - you can purchase VueScan for a fraction of the cost. VueScan is a great alternative to Silverfast. Some find the user interface hard to use or are turned off by another aspect of it. ![]() Many people are looking for an alternative to Silverfast because they have found it doesn’t fit all of their needs. They both can also be used to scan other things like documents and photos. Silverfast and VueScan are the most commonly used professional tools for scanning film and slides.
